Interior design of a former office building from the 90’s transformed into a hotel/hostel with 170 rooms, a restaurant, cinema room, guest kitchen etc. Our team was asked to create a recognizable and unique interior design concept for a new player on the Dutch Hotel market. Via Hostels was founded in London and Via Hotel Amsterdam / Diemen is the first location in Europe with a new design concept for a young target group. Distinctive design elements are the instagrammable graphics/ graffiti paintings and the references to the urban 90’s such as skateboarding, hiphop music and breakdancing. The restaurant “The Dude” has been named after the famous cult movie from the 90’s, The Big Lebowski. The colors, shapes and (mostly natural) materials have been chosen to revive the 90’s and to seduce the visitors to get out of their rooms and stay for breakfast/lunch/dinner before/after visiting the city centre of Amsterdam.
Since the opening in september 2017 the hotel has an average occupancy rate of 94%. There was a great collaboration between our team, OZ architects and Van Wijnen which made the impossible possible. From concept design to delivery in less than one year for a project of app. 7000m2 in total.
